Privacy at a glance
No account, ad profile, analytics SDK, or location permission is required.
The app uses a random installation identifier to provide complimentary-day and season-pass access. We do not sell personal information, track you across other companies’ apps or websites, or ask for your name, email address, contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or location inside the app.
Information we collect
Installation identifier
On first use, the app creates a random UUID and stores it using iOS secure storage. The app sends this UUID to the Horse Racing Companion application service with requests. The service stores the UUID, when its record was created, and when it was last used. The UUID is not your Apple ID, advertising identifier, device serial number, name, or email address, but it does link the access records described below to one app installation. You can view and select it in Settings under Installation ID.
Complimentary-day and access activity
The service records each racing date you intentionally unlock, its season, the activation time, and any season-pass entitlement linked to the installation identifier. This lets the service calculate complimentary days remaining and decide whether a card is unlocked. It does not record each screen you view or button you tap as analytics.
Purchase verification
If season-pass purchases become available and you buy or restore one, Apple processes the payment. The app sends Apple’s signed transaction to our service so it can verify access. The service does not retain the signed transaction itself. It stores a cryptographic hash of it, Apple transaction and original-transaction identifiers, product identifier, purchase date, Apple environment, transaction status, and the related entitlement dates and status. For Apple server notifications, the service stores the notification identifier and type, related transaction identifier when present, received time, and whether it was processed; it does not retain the signed notification. We do not receive your payment-card number, Apple Account password, or full Apple purchase history.
Information kept only on the device
The app stores cached race cards, race details, access status, onboarding completion, and the total wager amount you select for a race in local app storage. The amount you select for a race is not sent to our service. The installation identifier is also stored locally, but—as explained above—it is sent to the service for app access.
Network and hosting information
When the app contacts the service, Railway, our hosting provider, may process the IP address, request time, requested path, response status, and similar security or diagnostic information in infrastructure logs. Horse Racing Companion does not use that information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Website visits and support messages
The website is a static GitHub Pages site. We have not added advertising cookies, analytics scripts, or tracking pixels. GitHub logs a visitor’s IP address for security and may process other standard web-request information under its own privacy terms. If you email support, Google’s Gmail service and the developer receive your email address, message, and anything you attach. Do not send payment credentials, government identification, or wagering-account details.
Public racing information
The service retrieves public Del Mar race cards, odds, scratches, changes, and results and creates recommendations and performance records from them. These records describe public racing events, not app users. The service does not send your installation identifier to the Del Mar public data source.
How we use information
- Provide current cards, recommendations, results, and card access.
- Count complimentary racing days and restore valid purchases.
- Protect the service from abuse, diagnose failures, and maintain reliability.
- Respond to support, privacy, and accessibility requests.
- Meet legal, tax, accounting, and App Store obligations when applicable.
We do not use app information for third-party advertising, targeted advertising, data-broker sales, or tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.
How this maps to Apple’s privacy labels
For App Store disclosure, the random installation UUID is treated as a Device ID, an activated complimentary day is treated as Product Interaction, and a verified season pass is treated as Purchase History. Each is linked to the installation identifier only for app functionality and is not used for tracking.
Service providers and disclosures
We disclose limited information only as needed to operate the app:
- Apple: distributes the app, provides iOS secure storage, and processes and verifies App Store purchases under Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Railway: hosts the application service and database and may process stored service records and technical request information on our behalf under Railway’s Privacy Policy.
- GitHub: hosts the static public website through GitHub Pages and processes website requests under the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- Google: provides the Gmail mailbox used for support and processes messages under Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Professional or legal recipients: only when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, or complete a business transaction subject to appropriate safeguards.
We do not sell or rent personal information.
Retention and security
There is currently no automatic expiration schedule for installation, complimentary-day, purchase-verification, or entitlement records. They remain in the service database so complimentary-day limits and valid purchases can be recognized, unless they are deleted after a verified request or the service no longer needs them. Purchase, fraud-prevention, tax, accounting, or legal records may be kept longer where required.
Railway controls the retention of its infrastructure logs under its service settings and terms. Support messages remain in the Gmail support mailbox until they are deleted; you may ask us to delete a support conversation. Local app data remains under iOS and app storage controls until it is cleared, removed, or replaced, subject to iOS backup and secure-storage behavior.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including encrypted network connections. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Your privacy choices
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of service information associated with an installation by emailing feedback@horseracingcompanion.com. Include the Installation ID shown in the app’s Settings screen so we can locate the correct record. We may ask for additional information reasonably needed to verify the request.
Deleting a service-side installation record may reset complimentary-day status and remove an entitlement linked only to that installation. Apple retains its own purchase records under its policy, and a later valid Restore Purchases request may create a new entitlement record. Deleting server records does not itself clear information stored on your iPhone or in your email account. Some purchase-verification, security, tax, accounting, or legal records may be retained where required or reasonably necessary.
California residents may also ask what personal information we hold, request correction or deletion, and confirm that we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We will not discriminate against you for making a privacy request.
Children
The app is intended only for adults who are of legal wagering age where they use it and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
International use
The service is operated from the United States. If you use it elsewhere, information may be processed in the United States, subject to applicable law. The app is only intended for use where its informational features and any related wagering activity are lawful.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top will be revised, and material changes will be communicated in the app or on this site when appropriate.
